Erin Howell, 2’s & 3’s Teacher
I began as a mother of two young boys here at Anchors-A-Wee. I became involved with the school and loved it. After my boys graduated from the program, I was asked if I would like to work at the school. I have a background in early childhood education and special education, so I said… Yes, and it’s been the best decision ever.
I was given another opportunity to teach the two year old class, and it has been another great experience for me to become involved. The two year old class is a wonderful and loving environment for me to participate in. The children are all eager to learn, play and grow.
In my free time, I am busy in my son’s activities…martial arts, baseball, flag football, dodgeball, basketball and swimming. I also enjoy volunteering in their elementary school. When I have time I also enjoy skiing, boating and socializing with friends
Marguerite Stevens, 2’s Assistant Teacher
I love the babies of the school, or should I say…my babies! This is truly a wonderful place to spend my days. I love watching your children grow and flourish in this fun environment. Every year we get a new group of great little kids, they come to us shy and timid, and we help them master skills and develop a sense of confidence and independence. I love to help children learn to follow simple directions and watch them develop pride in the things they have created and learned in class.
I reside in Cape St Claire and I have three children, two grown and my youngest who is still in school. I enjoy children of all ages, and love to have the neighborhood kids over at our house, where we have a pool and enjoy swimming and relaxing. I also enjoy watching and cheering my son on in his football and basketball games, along with enjoying his musical talents.
Jen LaHart, 2's Teacher
Hi, my name is Jen LaHart and I am the mother of three children, all of whom have attended Anchors-A-Wee. My youngest is currently in Mrs. Weissinger's Pre-K class. I have spent the past nine years as a parent at AAW, and I am so excited to now be a part of the wonderful staff. I love the small, family-like atmosphere of Anchors-A-Wee, and I am so grateful for the experiences that the school provided for my kids while they built friendships and learned the skills needed for kindergarten.
I have a Master's degree in School Psychology from the University of MD - College Park, and worked as a Psychologist for three years in Anne Arundel County Public Schools before having my children. I am so happy to be returning to a school setting and having the opportunity to work with children. I find it so rewarding to help kids feel good about themselves!
I live on the Broadneck Peninsula with my husband and three children. My kids keep me pretty busy with their activities including year-round baseball and gymnastics. If I do have any free-time, I enjoy reading, exercising, spending time with family and friends, and listening to music while providing taxi services for my children.

Hi, my name is Jen Deal. I’m happily married to my husband, Steve. We have two sons, Aiden and Alexander. We started attending Christ Our Anchor with my parents when Aiden was one year old. Sarah Taylor, Pre-K Teacher
I am the mother of two children who have both graduated from Anchors-A-Wee. When my youngest was in his final year here I was given the opportunity to teach the Art Goes to Preschool program. I was thrilled with the prospect of continuing on at the preschool once the children moved on and jumped at the chance to combine the roll of music and art teacher. I get to spend my time singing and creating fabulous art with all the children in the school and love every minute of it.
I am originally from England where I studied elementary education and have taught both in the UK and US. My husband and I moved to the states in 2000 and have lived on the Broadneck peninsula since 2005. We love spending time outdoors with the children and we are often found biking, walking and camping together.
I am able to work with all the teachers and students here at AAW, and there is nothing as special as seeing the smile on a child’s face during our art and music classes.
Brooke Long, 3's Teacher
I live on the Broadneck Peninsula with my husband and two children. I have a BA degree in Psychology and previously worked as a Preschool Teacher prior to having children. Both children have attended AAW and loved it, so I was thrilled to become a part of this great school! I worked with Laura Carty years ago at another school and once my kids were old enough I was able to get myself back in the preschool world not just as a mother but professionaly as well.
Wendy Rhoe, 3's & 4's Assistant Teacher
Hello! I grew up on the Broadneck Peninsula and attended Severn School and James Madison University. My husband, Kris, works at Northrop Gruman at the Bay Bridge and we have one son, Collins. In our spare time we enjoy boating, house renovations and spending time as a family. Collins, along with my nephew attended Anchors-A-Wee and we loved the environment. For the past several years, I have enjoyed substitute teaching at various independent schools. When the opportunity became available to become part of the AAW faculty I was very excited. I enjoy working with children and getting to experience each day through their eyes. It is wonderful to be part of such a caring faculty and staff.
Christine Clark, Extended Day 4’s Teacher and 3's Assistant Teacher
Hello, my name is Christine Clark. I am married with 3 children, Gabe and twins, Jack and Alexandra. I graduated from University of Delaware and received a Bachelor of Arts in Math Education. I moved to wonderful Annapolis in 1998. During my college years, I worked at the YWCA in New Castle County as a Before and After School Care Counselor as well as a Camp Counselor in the summers. After college, I actually went to work in corporate America for 10 years and realized how much I missed working with children. All three of my children went to Anchors-A-Wee which is when I fell in love with this preschool. In 2011, I was lucky enough to have been hired as a substitute Teacher Assistant. That position was very fun for me as it gave me the opportunity to meet and play with all the children at AAW. In 2013, I began my first year with Anchors-A-Wee Preschool as a permanent Teacher Assistant working with the amazing Mrs. Dean! I look forward to getting to know you and your child! I can assure you that this adventure will be full of excitement, learning, and discoveries.
Michele Gish, Extended Day 4's Assistant Teacher
Hello, my name is Michele Gish and I am so thankful to be a apart of the AAW team! I was born and reaised in Baltimore, MD. I graduated from the US Naval Academy and served 5 years as an intelligence officer. My husband is also a USNA grad, he is still active duty and teaching in the Ocean Engineering Department. We are happy to be back in Maryland and living in Arnold with our two children. Our youngest, Drew attended AAW and loved it.
I love to volunteer and over the last 2 years, I would help out at Anchors-A-Wee whenever the opportunity would arise.. Then last year, I was able to work as an aide in the Friday 2's class for the last couple of weeks of school. I was so fortunate to have been asked back as an Assistant Teacher for Ms Clark's 4's class. I am thrilled to work with your children and watch them learn and grow!
PJ Gilbert, 4’s Teacher
I am the mother of three children, two girls sandwich a boy. Watching them grow has been my greatest adventure. I grew up in the Midwest, my husband and I moved several times around the country until we moved to Arnold in 1998. After a year of searching for a church home, I became a member of Christ Our Anchor and have taught Sunday School since I joined.
When I am not on an athletic field watching my children I enjoy boating, snow skiing, running, reading and my very favorite pastime, taking photos.
Being a part of your children’s lives brings me great joy and I feel blessed to be a part of the Anchors-A-Wee team.
Katie Brusgard, Pre-K Assistant Teacher
Hi my name is Katie Brusgard. This will be my 8th year as an assistant teacher at Anchors-A-Wee Preschool. I have had the opportunity to work in all the different age groups. I’m currently working as an assistant teacher in the morning 3 year olds and the afternoon Pre-K.
I have been married to my husband Tom for 30 years and we have 2 adult children. Jennifer, who is 27, works at Aberdeen Proving Ground in the training department. Eric is 25 and he works for the Department of Defense.
My husband and I love to travel. We enjoy boating and vacationing with our children to the Outer Banks. One of our favorite vacations is cruising in the Caribbean.
I am looking forward to another great year at Anchors-A-Wee. I am so blessed to be able to work with such a great staff and wonderful parents and children.
Jennifer Weaver, Music Teacher
I have lived in Arnold for the past 11 years with my husband and two daughters. Both girls have attended Anchors-A-Wee and we love the school. I have a degree in elementary education from Salisbury University and have taught 2nd and 3rd grade. I am thrilled to be back in a school setting and am looking forward to an exciting year! Music has a positive impact on every aspect of a child's early development. Dancing and fingerplays help acclerate a child's physical health and development. Music can calm and soothe your child or get them in the mood to be active, and take threm through a wide range of emotions.
And...what could be more fun then clapping and dancing with friends!
Melanie Dean, Assistant Director & Art Teacher
I’m Mrs. Dean. I have been a part of Anchors-A-Wee since 1997. That is when my middle daughter, Samantha started here. Funny story, my oldest daughter, Madeline went to a different preschool and was taught by Miss Gibbs. If you didn’t know, Miss Gibbs is now Mrs. (Laura) Carty. Small world. My youngest daughter, Sylvia also learned here at Anchors-A-Wee, and the year after she graduated, I started teaching here, in 2002. As for me – I grew up in Crownsville and married the man I have had a crush on since I was in middle school. We have lived in the Annapolis area since 1993. I previously taught the 3's and 4's classes here at AAW, and I am now dabling in Art Appreciation- really it's an excuse to still be able to come and have fun with preschoolers!
Mikaely Hentnick, Director
I have loved Anchors-A-Wee since I moved to the neighborhood in 2002 and saw the sign with the super cute name! When my children turned 3, I signed them up here and haven’t looked back. I dreamed of working here since they started and luckily that dream came true! I love working here – it’s truly a fun job!
My husband and I have a boy and a girl, ages 10 & 12 - they have both been through the programs here and it has been so wonderful! I feel very blessed to have this wonderful job with such super people! We are a family here at Anchors-A-Wee.
